The call of Christ is a call to movement. When Jesus says, "Go!" He is not offering a casual suggestion - He is giving a divine directive. The Great Commission compels us to go and make disciples, to live out our faith in a world that often opposes God's truth. But as we go, we must be mindful of the path we walk.
Matthew 7:13-14 (NLT) "You can enter God's Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it."
Jesus spoke of two roads: the broad way that leads to destruction and the narrow way that leads to life. Our challenge as followers of Christ is to keep moving forward without straying from the narrow way.
The Danger of the Broad Road
The broad road is attractive, popular, and easy to travel. It is the path of compromise, where people live according to their own desires rather than God's will. This road promises freedom but leads to bondage. It promises fulfilment but delivers emptiness. Many are on this road, blindly following the ways of the world, unaware of the eternal danger ahead.
As believers, we are called to something different. We are called to walk in righteousness and to resist the temptations that pull us away from God's truth. The enemy wants nothing more than for us to drift, to take a few steps off course, to believe that just a little compromise won't matter. But every step away from God's way is a step toward destruction.
Walking the Narrow Way
The narrow way is not easy, but it is worth it. It requires faith, obedience, and perseverance. Walking the narrow path means making choices that honour God, even when they are unpopular. It means standing firm in truth when the world pressures us to conform. It means seeking Christ daily, relying on His strength, and trusting that His way is best.
Psalm 119:105 reminds us, "Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path." God has not left us to navigate the narrow way on our own. His Word is our guide. His Spirit is our strength. His grace sustains us when the journey is tough.
Keep Going Without Straying
The road may be difficult, but the destination is glorious. Jesus tells us that the narrow way leads to life. Eternal life. Abundant life. A life lived in the presence of God, now and forever.
So, Go! Move forward in faith. Step boldly in obedience. And as you journey, stay the course. Do not be distracted by the easy road. Do not be tempted to take shortcuts that lead away from God's will. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). The way may be narrow, but it is the way that leads to true and lasting joy.
