The message of the Gospel is the good news!

What is The Gospel?
When Christians use the term Gospel they are referring to the good news that Jesus Christ died to pay the penalty for our sin. Jesus did this so we could be forgiven of our sin and enter into a real relationship with God.

The Gospel Message

A video summary of the good news of The Gospel

What is The Gospel Message?

Before Jesus came to earth to save us, people were hopelessly lost in sin, separated from God, and destined to spend eternity in a very real place of punishment called Hell. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus offers us forgiveness of our sins and the gift of eternal life.

To understand the message of the Gospel, the message of God's salvation, we need to understand why we need to be saved. The Bible teaches that since Adam and Eve committed the first sin by disobeying God's instructions in the Garden of Eden, every single person since then has been born into sin. We, like Adam and Eve, are separated from God by our sins and that is why we need a Saviour.

The problem of sin
God is perfect in His holiness. He cannot tolerate sin, He cannot look upon sin, and He cannot have a relationship with anyone who has sin until the penalty for that sin has been paid and the sin removed. The Bible is clear that without someone to save us, we would pay our own penalty in the desolation of a real place called Hell, a place where we would be totally and eternally separated from God. The Bible says, "For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard." (Romans 3:23) and "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

The solution to sin
"The free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23). Even though we were sinners, and deserved to suffer our own punishment, God loved us and sent Jesus, His sinless, only Son, to save us. Jesus loved us, and agreed to take our punishment upon Himself.

"For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16). This is the Message of the Gospel, God has provided us with the way to be saved. Salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ, salvation is a gift that only God can give.

"God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God." (Ephesians 2:8). Jesus died for our sins, and God raised Him from the dead, so we could have the gift of salvation — eternal life in Him. We accept that gift by:
Believing that Jesus is the Son of God, that He died for us, and that God raised Him from the dead.
Turning away from our sins (The Bible calls this 'repenting'.
Acknowledging our belief in Jesus, and that we accept Him as our Lord and Saviour.

"If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9). When we accept the gift of salvation, we also receive the Holy Spirit, the Helper that Jesus promised would come, after Jesus returned to Heaven. The Holy Spirit lives within every believer, comforting us and teaching us how to live a God-centred life.

"I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, who will never leave you." (John 14:16)

What does this mean to you?
