Romans 12:2 (NLT): "Don't copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."
We live in a world that constantly tells us how to think, what to value, and who to be. Every advertisement, news feed, and social media post whispers - or shouts - its definition of success, beauty, and truth. But Romans 12:2 calls us to something radically different. It's a command to stand out, not fit in.
The Apostle Paul tells us, "Don't copy the behaviour and customs of this world." The Greek word used for "conformed" here is syschematizo, meaning "to pattern yourself after" or "to be moulded by external pressures." Paul warns us not to let the world press us into its shape. Instead, we're called to be transformed - metamorphoo - the same word used to describe Jesus' transfiguration. It's a change that starts within and works its way out.
Transformation isn't self-improvement; it's Spirit-renewal. The Holy Spirit reshapes our thinking, reorders our priorities, and restores our hearts to align with the will of God. When we surrender our minds to Him, He begins to replace anxiety with peace, pride with humility, and confusion with clarity.
Charles Stanley once said, "You will never change your behaviour until you change your thinking - and you will never change your thinking without the Word of God." Transformation begins where Scripture is applied, not just read. The Bible becomes our lens for life, revealing what God calls "good and pleasing and perfect."
Maybe today you feel the tension between the world's noise and God's voice. You want to fit in, but you were never created to blend in - you were created to shine. The world says, "Be true to yourself." But Jesus says, "Be transformed by Me."
Every day, you have a choice: conform or transform. One keeps you stuck in the world's mould; the other makes you more like Christ.
So today, invite God to renew your mind. Let Him transform your thoughts, reshape your desires, and redirect your steps. When your mind is changed by His truth, your life will reflect His glory.
Don't be conformed - be transformed.
